Biography Brief-Winnie Marie Jones

Winnie Marie Jones

PARENTS/SIBLING: Winnie Marie Jones was born August 19, 1928, in (presumably) Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Lousiana [1-5]. She was the youngest daughter of the two born to Paul Wilson Jones (February 16, 1901-March 3, 1968) and Rosa Lee Davis (August 26, 1903-June 25, 1991) [1-7]. Besides Winnie, the couple had Ellen Pauline Jones (August 24, 1925-September 3, 1992) [8].

MARRIAGE 1: On June 4, 1944, in Miller County, Arkansas, Winnie married Harris Almon Rateliff [9-13]. Born March 9, 1925, in Patmos, Hempstead County, Arkansas, Harris was the son of Thomas Watson Rateliff (May 6, 1897-November 15, 1963) and Zura Vazelle "Missouri" Sanders (December 16, 1901-June 23, 1973) [14-27]. The marriage of Winnie Marie and Harris Almon produced a daughter, Patsy Arletta Rateliff (April 24, 1945-April 24, 1987) [28]. Unfortunately, the marriage between Winnie and Harris dissolved in 1947 in Miller County, Arkansas [29-31]. On February 9, 1997, in Patmos, Hempstead County, Arkansas, Thomas passed away at seventy-one [32]. His remains are in New Hope Cemetery in Patmos [32].

Calvin Raymond Witterstaetter and Winnie Marie Jones

MARRIAGE 2: On June 5, 1947, in Miller County, Arkansas, Winnie married Calvin Raymond Witterstaetter [9-14]. Born September 14, 1924, in Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas, Calvin was the son of William Raney Witterstaetter (December 11, 1893-December 23, 1965) and Lena McBride (February 11, 1900-June 27, 1943) [32-44]. The marriage of Winnie Marie and Calvin Raymond produced one daughter, Carol Ann Witterstaetter, born February 20, 1948, in Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas [45]. Sadly, the marriage between Winnie and Calvin ended on April 17, 1952, in Miller County, Arkansas [29-31]. On January 5, 1993, Calvin died at sixty-eight in Bowie County, Texas [14]. His interment is in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum in Wage Village, Bowie County, Texas [14].

MARRIAGE 3: In approximately May 1952, Winnie married for the third time to James Harold Adcock. Born June 7, 1927, in Fouke, Miller County, Arkansas, James was the son of Leonard Austin Adcock (October 14, 1895-July 22, 1967) and Thora Edith Nobles (July 5, 1895-January 21, 1969) [46-58]. Through their union, four children were born, Elecia Susan "Lisa" (February 3, 1953), Angela Rose (February 15, 1957-February 15, 1957), Jeffery Leonard (January 18, 1958-June 25, 1983), and Tab Anthony Adcock (June 3, 1959) [59-64]. Harold died on October 10, 2014, in Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas. He was eighty-seven at the time of his passing [46]. His interment is in Sylverino Cemetery in Fouke, Miller County, Arkansas [46].

DEATH: At 7:25 in the morning on December 2, 1971, with a borrowed car, Winnie Marie, perhaps distracted or unable to hear the approaching train, lost her life when the train crashed into the automobile she was driving [1]. She was only forty-three years old [1]. Her interment is in Sylverino Cemetery in Fouke, Miller County, Arkansas [1].

Presented by Progenitor Portal

This blog was created for my granddaughters, Natalie Elizabeth and Emmalyn Rose Herron, to share the experiences of me and Mitch, along with our viewpoints on politics, religion, and the history we are creating. I respectfully understand that you may not always agree with our perspectives. We want to teach the two of them our history, their family history, and American history, so they, too, will learn to question with boldness! Should you disagree with our viewpoints, please keep your negative commentary in your mind. This blog may not be for you.
